Construction orders down 11% in Q3

Construction orders in the third quarter were down 11% on the previous quarter, and by 19% compared to the same period a year ago.

Total construction orders for the 12 months to September 2008 were 10% down on the previous 12 month period.

Private housing orders were down a third on the previous three months, and by 53% on the same quarter in 2007.

Private commercial orders fell 15% compared to the second quarter, and were down by over 30% against the corresponding period last year.

On the positive side, public housing orders were up by 7% on the the previous quarter, and up by 37% on the same three months a year ago.

Infrastructure orders were also up compared to the third quarter of 2007, by 18%, though down 10% on the second quarter of this year.
