Two of the world’s leading wind farm operators have teamed up with a view to developing 6,000 megawatts of installed capacity off the British coastline.
ScottishPower Renewables is joining with Sweden’s Vattenfall to bid for the next round of offshore licences in Britain.
The partnership will take the form of a consortium that will submit a tender to the Crown Estate.
Vattenfall, which owns two of the world’s largest offshore wind farms, also bought the Thanet Offshore project for £35m yesterday.
Vattenfall’s wind power division head Anders Dahl told the Guardian: “Great Britain is ideal for wind power with good wind conditions and a long coastline.”
