Tube Lines boss Terry Morgan to lead Crossrail

By Roxanne Millar

Tube Lines chief executive Terry Morgan has been appointed chairman of the £16bn Crossrail project.

Morgan will become non-executive chairman of the scheme after he steps down from Tube Lines in November next year.

He has been asked to give 12-months notice while Tube Lines completes funding negotiations with the government and Transport for London (TfL).

Current Crossrail executive chairman Douglas Oakervee will oversee construction work on the massive project in the meantime.

Morgan told the Guardian that Crossrail will not compete for funding with Tube Lines, whose work programme is facing a £1.4bn deficit.

“They are not competing for funding,” he said. “The Underground needs the investment but the projects are complementary.

“Crossrail will deliver all its potential if there is a robust Underground service delivering passengers to all the interchanges.”
