Stop changing Olympic design, contractors warn

By Neil Gerrard

Olympic contractors have appealed to Olympic bosses to stop changing the design of venues and let them get on with building them, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) boss David Higgins has warned.

Higgins said the design phase of the London 2012 Games was all but complete and it was time to focus on delivery, according to the Financial Times.

"Please don't change any design issues - that is what the contractors are telling us," Higgins said.

He added that it was time to "focus on the £6bn" - the construction part of the Olympic budget - for savings.

"Everything we are dong now is to build as efficiently as we possibly can," he said.

He also admitted that the ODA was "trawling the market" to see where the media centre could be housed.

His comments follow a KPMG report earlier last week which advised Olympic organisers to abandon the idea of making savings from scrapping the construction of temporary venues and moving events to existing venues.
