Laing O'Rourke has won a contract worth £425m to work on signalling, track and railway infrastructure for five years in New South Wales, Australia.
The UK-based contractor won the deal as part of the Novo consortium, comprising Laing O'Rourke, O'Donnell Griffin and Connell Wagner.
Construction is expected to start in late 2009.
Laing O'Rourke has already delivered several UK rail projects including the St Pancras redevelopment scheme in London, the Manchester Metrolink extension project, and the Cannon Place redevelopment.
It also started work on the North-South railway project in Saudi Arabia in 2007, and has completed the Chatswood Transport Interchange project in Sydney.
