The Michael Tippett School in Lambeth has clinched the star prize in the first Building Schools for the Future annual awards night.

The school designed by architects Marks Barfield and built by Apollo Education was named as the most transformational, inspirational and successful Building Schools for Future project. The project also won the best design award.

The awards, hosted by comedian and actor Rob Brydon of Gavin and Stacey fame, involved 11 categories. Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council also shone, winning two awards for Best Innovational Student Engagement in their BSF scheme and the Best Transformational Learning award.

Partnerships for Schools chief Tim Byles said: “The nominations showcased BSF as a catalyst for exciting and sustainable design in both new and remodelled schools, innovation in how students get involved in transforming their learning environment, and examples of robust partnerships and new leadership teams emerging.”
