Tube Lines spent £85m on capital projects in Q3

Tube Lines’ quarterly performance report, covering the three months to the end of September, reveals a capital expenditure of £85m, the planned spend figure having been £89m.

“Performance on the Northern line is now 65% better than when we took over in 2003,” said the group today.

“It has been a challenging quarter for the Jubilee line because of the intrusive upgrade works being done on the fleet which has impacted reliability. As we reach the completion of the fitment of the new signalling system we expect reliability to climb back up again.”

The construction of all 30 signal equipment rooms across the Jubilee line were also completed.

The upgrade of Acton Town station was completed this quarter taking the total number of station upgrade completions to 59. Upgrade work continues to plan on the remaining 10 stations currently with work in progress.

Two step-free access projects at Acton Town and Oakwood station were also completed this quarter – both are now in passenger service.

The track renewal team completed 12 months without a single lost time injury – a first in the rail industry.
