CPA issues fresh guidance on the use of semi-automatics

The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) and the Health and Safety Executive are renewing the message that existing semi-automatic quick hitches are not banned and, if used correctly, they are perfectly legal and safe.

To get this message across, the CPA has issued fresh guidance to members on the use of semi-automatics, including a warning sticker for the cab window.

The guidance is aimed at its members' customers and contains checklists showing the responsibilities of the site manager, the operator and the hire company.

Senior technical manager Kevin Minton also stressed the need for regular maintenance and inspection of machines.
