The two-year, £250m powerlines project on the Olympic Park has been delivered on time and to budget, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has announced.

The project is managed by J Murphy and the ODA, working with EDF Energy and the National Grid.

Work to install around 200km of underground cabling within two 6km-long tunnels was completed in May, and the last of 52 pylons and 130km of overhead cables at the site have now been removed.

ODA chief executive David Higgins said: "Removing the final overhead pylon from the Olympic Park site is a hugely symbolic moment as we begin to transform the skyline of east London for good."

The powerlines project was started by the London Development Agency (LDA) in 2005 before it was handed over to the ODA.
