Construction work has halted on 124 skyscrapers across the world, new research has shown.
Construction data firm Emporis said that work had stopped on 8.7% of all buildings over 100m tall where work was already underway.
In the US, 21 out of 203 skyscrapers have been put on hold. In Australia, four out of 36 were stopped. And in Asia, 84 out of 840 projects had ground to a halt.
But the tally was much lower in Europe and South America. Seven out of 119 skyscraper projects have stopped in 2008 in Europe, including 5 in former Soviet states. In South America only 2 out of 77 skyscraper projects there have been suspended.
