Mace has been appointed project manager on the new Birmingham City University development. The win comes after the university was given the green light to build its new £150m Eastside City Centre campus.
The campus forms the basis of the regeneration of Birmingham’s Eastside and will include fully operational television studios, a library, concert hall, lecture theatres and a learning resource centre. The proposed scheme will also include the University’s Skillset Media Academy and become the home of the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design.
Mace has delivered a number of previous projects with Birmingham City University. Mace project manager, Tony Gale said: “Being able to draw on this prior relationship put the team in a strong position allowing us to secure what is currently one of the largest schemes in the Midlands.”
Director of Estates at Birmingham City University, Graham Rhodes said: “To get the go ahead on this exciting new project is great news for the University. The new campus will be a centre for cultural and creative activities with an international reputation for expertise.”
The first phase of the development will deliver 15,000 square metres of shell and core by December 2011.
