Three consortia have been shortlisted for a £450m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme in Somerset.
The shortlisted bidders are BAM PPP UK, a consortium led by BAM; Aura, a consortium led by Sir Robert McAlpine; and Somerset Learning Partnership, a consortium led by Land Securities Trillium.
A final bidder is due to be selected in 2010. The first phase of the scheme will see the winning bidder rebuild four schools in Bridgwater as part of a £100m programme.
The time frame for the rest of the £450m project has not yet been set and will depend on central government funding allocations for BSF over the next 15 years.
The three bidders will now undergo the next stage of the competitive dialogue procedure, working on a sample scheme to rebuild a school as well as developing a theoretical remodelling and refurbishment scheme.
The bidder shortlist will be narrowed to two in June this year, while the preferred bidder for the entire programme will be announced in February 2010.
