Olympic minister Tessa Jowell has appointed former Skanska chief executive David Fison to the board of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).

Fison joins as the pace of construction work on the Olympics picks up.

Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell said:

"I am delighted to welcome David to the ODA board. This year and next will see the construction programme reach its peak. David has vast experience of the construction industry which will be absolutely vital during this phase.

"I would also like to pay tribute to Peter Mason who has been a valuable member of the board and contributed enormously to the tremendous progress already made on the project.

"With the reappointment of the current membership today, I am confident that we have the right mix of skills to ensure that we deliver a world class Olympic and Paralympic Games and a lasting legacy for the UK."

ODA Chairman John Armitt said:

"I would like to thank Peter Mason very much for the role he has played on the ODA Board over the last two years.

"His expert advice and long experience of the construction industry have helped us get off to a strong start on the project with building work starting early on site and the completion of the first projects on time and on budget.

"It is understandable that having helped establish the ODA on sound foundations he now wants to focus more on his other business interests.

"I welcome David Fison to the Board and I am confident that his experience of overseeing major infrastructure projects at Balfour Beatty and as CEO of Skanksa will be invaluable to the ODA as we accelerate into the 'big build' in 2009."
