Breyer lifts pre-tax profit to £1.3m

By John Leitch

Breyer, the construction group based in Romford, Essex, has enjoyed a jump in pre-tax profit to £1.3m following a figure of £830,000 in the previous year.

Breyer’s latest financial results cover the 12 months to 31 May 2008. Turnover ran to £72m, well ahead of the 2007 figure of £50m.

The profit margin was little changed, lifting marginally to 1.8% from 1.7% in the earlier period.

Breyer is involved in general building and specialist roofing work.

The directors stated: “The significant risks faced by the company are inflation, the demand for modern commercial property, employment levels and economic factors.

“However the directors do not believe that at present the above will affect the company as the directors believe they are in control of these risks.”

That confidence allowed the removal of £550,000 by way of a dividend to shareholders, up from a £400,000 dividend in the previous year.

Breyer started the period with net funds of £1.3m and after an outflow of £990,000 ended the spell with £320,000 of funds.

The 176 employees were divided between:

  • 142 production
  • 24 administration
  • 10 management

The bill for wages and salaries ran to £8.3m.

The pension cost for the 176 employees ran to £220,000 and there was a further £75,000 for the group’s five directors.

The highest-paid director was awarded a total of £187,000.
