Builders' merchant Bradfords axes 45 jobs

West Country building supplies firm Bradfords has told staff it plans to cuts 45 jobs.

In a letter to staff, the company says it is starting a consultation process over job losses. A company spokesman said: "This proposal stems from the ongoing severe economic downturn and the serious impact this has had on the company's profitability."

Bradford's is planning to hold talks with staff representatives elected from the workforce for a consultation period of 30 days.

Bradfords is one of the largest independent builders’ merchants in the UK, with sales topping £150m from its 26 branches throughout the South West, Herefordshire and Worcestershire .
