T Clarke unveils a ray of profit sunshine

By John Leitch

Whoever said that it’s unremitting doom and gloom throughout the construction industry hasn’t taken the trouble to talk to T Clarke.

The electrical contractor has just revealed that pre-tax profit in 2008 was not only up to the mark but was  “materially above” expectations.

Time to get out the champagne?

Things could have been even better as Clarke adds that the “underlying operating profit is expected to be significantly higher than current market expectations”

So what’s the difference between the two? Well there will be “certain provisions for impairment of goodwill” which takes a little shine off the overall situation.

Clarke expresses confidence in the resilience of its business going forward, despite these challenging times.

Clarke will announce full details of its preliminary results on 19 March 2009.
