The government has given the go-ahead for the construction of three new power stations.

RWE npower plans to build a £1bn combined cycle gas turbine power station in Pembroke, West Wales.

Meanwhile Powerfuel Power plans to construct an integrated coal gasification gas-fired power station in Hatfield, South Yorkshire.

And Centrica Leasing hopes to construct a combined cycle gas turbine power station in King's Lynn, Norfolk.

"Investment like this in the energy sector will create new engineering and construction jobs," said Energy and Climate Change minister, Mike O'Brien.
