Four trade associations have joined forces to create the 'Get Britain Building' campaign.
The campaign, led by The Federation of Master Builders, British Precast, Builders Merchants Federation and Modern Masonry Alliance aims to prevent 300,000 job losses.
The associations have produced a 10-point plan which includes encouraging banks to lend to small businesses, as well as a video presented by Naomi Cleaver, presenter of Channel 4's Trade Secrets.
Federation of Master Builders director general Richard Diment added: "During the last recession UK construction lost over 500,000 skilled jobs, we cannot allow that to happen again.
Among other points are a call for VAT to be cut to 5% for property maintenance, and a strategy to refurbish the country's 26m homes.
