Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering has won a £25m contract for the redevelopment of Lime Street station in Liverpool.
The Lime Street Gateway project has involved the demolition of Concourse House, thought to be one of the of the city's biggest eyesores, and a row of shops.
Balfour will build a new public space at the front of the station.
Work on the project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, English Partnerships, Northwest Regional Development Agency and the Railways Heritage Trust, is scheduled for completion in spring 2010.
