Top 5 construction tenders - 9 March 2009

This week's top five construction tenders includes a £70m deal to construct a National Arena for Scotland, a teenage learning centre on the Isle of Wight and a new Magistrates' Court in Newport. The details are only an outline of the work available, for the full OJEU click on the link.

Glasgow: auditorium construction work

  • Value: £70m
  • Scottish Exhibition Centre is inviting tenders for the construction of a National Arena for Scotland. The new arena will cover some 700m2 and seat 12,500 people. It is expected the procurement route will be a two stage design and build process. Separate contracts will be awarded for piling, substructure, drainage and utilities work.

Newport: Education building

  • Value: £30m
  • The Isle of Wight Council has issued a prior information notice to design and build a leaning centre for teenage students. It will need to incorporate high levels of sustainability and be capable of hosting a variety of learning environments and community use. Facilities management services may also be required.
  • Deadline: OJEU expected next week

London: College construction

  • Value: £23m
  • Westminster Kingsway College is seeking a contractor to perform the redevelopment of its Grade II listed Victoria Centre. The contract is phase one of a three phase project and includes the demolition of a corner of the building and the construction of a four-story extension. An element of refurbishment is also included.
  • Deadline: 21 April

Oxford: Leisure facilities

  • Value: £15m
  • A tender invitation has been issued by the London Borough of Hounslow for improvement works to Feltham Airpacs Leisure Centre. The works comprise the demolition and rebuilding of the single-storey building and the conversion of various rooms within the rest of the facility.
  • Deadline: 6 April

Cardiff: Magistrates’ Court

  • Value: £12m
  • Her Majesty’s Court Service is inviting tenders for the construction of a new Magistrates’ Court building near Newport (Gwent) City centre. The contract will take the form of a design and build agreement.
