Double crane death case heads for Crown Court

The Crown Court prosecution of two firms following the death of two workers during a crane collapse in Worthing will start next week.

WD Bennett's Plant and Services and Eurolift (Tower Cranes) Ltd are charged with health and safety offences after a 30m crane fell at a site near Durrington High School on 11 February 2005.

WD.Bennett's faces one charge alleging that it breached section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and another alleging it breached Regulation 4(1) of the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996.

Eurolift faces one charge alleging that it breached section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and another alleging it breached Regulation 4(1) of the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.
