Gantry collapse rescue - PHOTO

A painter has been rescued from a collapsed gantry in Sydney, Australia after his workmate fell 40 metres to his death.

The workman was saved by his harness and was left dangling for 30 minutes before police were able to haul him to safety through an open window.

His 70-year-old co-worker Tom Hynes died at the scene after plunging head first from the gantry.
