Administrators for stricken contractor Wrekin Construction have confirmed a total of 400 redundancies have been made at the group.
Ernst & Young said the redundancies would be at Wrekin's offices in Shropshire, Yorkshire, Northamptonshire and Cheshire.
A skeleton staff of just 70 has been kept on at the group's Shropshire headquarters to help administrators "wind down the business", a spokesman for the accountants said.
Wrekin blamed Royal Bank of Scotland after it was placed in administration, saying the bank would not extend its credit to cover cash-flow, despite the firm having a healthy order book.
