National Grid has awarded contracts worth up to £1.2bn to Morrison Utility Services and Enterprise Managed Services for gas grid work over the next 10 years.
Morrison's deal is for planned and reactive work on gas distribution networks in the eastern region of Britain, and is worth up to £70m a year, a National Grid spokesman told Reuters.
Enterprise's contract for the western region is valued at up to £50m.
Morrison's region covers the East Midlands, East Anglia and North London, while Enterprise will work in the West Midlands and North West of England.
