Olympic Village desks cost subbies £150 a week

Contractors bidding for work on the Olympic Village are fuming over charges made by developer Lend Lease to rent office space and use printers and photocopiers.

Subbies claim they will be charged £150 a week to rent a desk and £1.50 per print-out or photocopy by the developer.

Trade contractors also claim they are forced to use suppliers organised by Lend Lease that are too expensive.

One concrete frame specialist said: "If you want to work with them you have to use their suppliers and have to rent offices and use their machines as we can't take our own on site."

A Lend Lease spokesperson said: "Serviced, centralised offices are supplied on site for trade contractors and there is a standard service charge in place to meet their running costs.There are site-wide framework supplier agreements in place and trade contractors are encouraged or in some cases obliged to use these suppliers. This is made clear within the contract tenders."
