Birse wins £30m road job

By Grant Prior

Birse Civils has won a £30m contract from the Highways Agency for extensive traffic management systems along the entire length of the A14 from Felixstowe to the M1 motorway.

The project will provide technology in the form of message signs, MIDAS detection and CCTV to reduce queuing at junctions, improve the level of information to drivers and improve visual coverage for the HA Regional Control Centres.

The works will be undertaken on the verge adjacent to the east and west bound carriageways in order to minimise disruption to traffic during the course of the project.

Atkins is the Employers Agent and Planning Supervisor and main contractor is Birse Civils. Work will commence shortly with completion due at the end of August 2010.
