By John Leitch

Cemex’s report on its first quarter 2009 results, published this morning, gives a short summary of the UK trading position – sales dived by 43% to £190m and operating profit was 10% lower at £4.5m

Cemex is a global cement group and is based in Mexico. Globally it made an operating profit of £480m in the first three months of 2009….and lifted its profit margins to 19%, a rise of almost two percentage points.

Global turnover in the first quarter of the current year was down by a third, however, at £2.5bn.

Cemex took a slice of the UK construction materials back in 2005 when it bought RMC, the ready-mixed concrete group.
