Balfour Beatty has driven past four rivals to clinch a £14m job on the M4 in south Wales.
The project, dubbed the Controlled Motorway Scheme, involves replacing gantries and upgrading technology around the Newport area.
Work on site starts this month and is expected to run for 12 months.
Carillion and Costain, plus local firms Alun Griffiths and Dawnes also pitched for the Welsh Assembly contract.
