Severfield-Rowen set to be confirmed on £50m Shard job

Severfield-Rowen is expected to be confirmed as the winner of the £50m steel package on the Shard of Glass building in London this week.

The firm will take over the deal from Cleveland Bridge, which was originally named steel contractor by developer Sellar Property Group last summer.

Main contractor Mace had been hoping to unveil the news last month but discussions over when the transfer will take place - Cleveland has already begun working on the plunge columns - have held up an announcement.

Work will involve 12,500t of steel and will see Severfield begin fabrication in earnest this autumn at its yard in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, with erection starting next year.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that the firm will open a fabrication plant in the Indian city of Bellary by the middle of next year.

It has teamed up with local firm JSW Steel to carry out work in the country and has opened an office in Mumbai.
