Bam Nuttall and Volker Fitzpatrick win £100m Blackpool Tram deal

Bam Nuttall and Volker Fitspatrick have won two packages under the £100m contract to upgrade Blackpool's tram line.

Bam Nuttall are preferred bidder for the trackworks package whilst Volker Fitzpatrick has won the £20m contract for the construction of Blackpool's new tram depot.

The trackworks contract involves the replacement of eight kilometres of track, new tram stops and highway works.

The tram depot deal includes the construction of a new maintenance depot facility and a new stabling depot for the trams including some track.Both contracts are due to be completed by easter 2012.

Both firms bids stood out from the competition in terms of price, technical submissions and the firms' willlingness to accept the contracts' terms and conditions, according to a council report.

Bombardier will provide 16 new trams to run on the newly upgraded system.
