Mace has confirmed that Severfield Rowen is to begin working on the £50m steel package for the Shard skyscraper in London, as predicted by ContractJournal.com earlier this month.
Severfield-Reeve Structures will design, fabricate and deliver the steel frame to the tower from the ground level up.
Meanwhile, Cleveland Bridge UK, which was originally in line to take the entire package on on its own, will continue its work designing, fabricating and delivering the plunge columns and associate steelwork for the basement to ground floor of the building.
Mace said the decision would make use of “the best resources from both parties” who are expected to maintain “extremely close collaboration” during the delivery of the whole tower.
Mace Group director for construction services, Gareth Lewis said: “We took the decision to appoint both Cleveland Bridge UK and Severfield-Reeve Structures in order to build upon the excellent progress made to date on the project and to optimise our delivery solution.”
