BAM PPP UK and Bouygues PEC have both made the shortlist for the £250m Camden Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
The scheme will involve the provision of new and remodelled school buildings and computer networks across Camden.
Work is likely to start in September 2010 with the new UCL-sponsored Academy at Swiss Cottage.
Cllr Andrew Mennear, Camden Council's executive member for schools, said: "Both the bidders are very experienced companies which certainly bodes well for our BSF programme. We will now enter detailed discussions with both bidders to determine which would be best placed to help us deliver these ambitious plans which will transform learning in Camden for all our young people."
The council will discuss the possibility of using the schools building programme to provide a range of apprenticeships for Camden school leavers with both bidders.
