Five on starting grid for £400m roads framework

Five contractors are on the starting grid for a £400m managed works framework contract covering the East and South East of England for the Highways Agency.

Interserve Project Services, Carillion Civil Engineering, BAM Nuttall / Hanson JV, Birse Civils Limited, and Lafarge Aggregates / Costain JV have all won a place on the scheme, which will run for two years, with the option of being extended up to four.

The contract will include maintenance and improvement works, including resurfacing roads and maintaining bridges. Each project can be valued up to £10m.

The five companies will operate on behalf the Highways Agency in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Hampshire, Kent, Norfolk, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Surrey and Sussex. The new contract also includes the option to work on the M25.
