North Midland Building (NMB), part of North Midland Construction, has been awarded a £3.5m contract with South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Authority to build a new community fire station and training centre for Dearne Valley.

The 3.5 acre site located on Manvers Way, Rotherham will have the capacity to house four fire appliances and a training facility. This will incorporate a collapsible wall rig and subterranean rescue equipment for the Service’s Technical Rescue Unit (TRU) which will move from its current base at Rotherham Fire Station.

In addition there will be a community meeting room which members of the local community can use for meetings and events.

It is due to be ready by May 2010 and once fully operational, the stations at Brampton and Mexborough will close.
