The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is looking to appoint a contractor to carry out restoration of historic buildings along the route from Aldgate to the Olympics site in Stratford.

The 23-month contract has an estimated budget of between £2m and £3m.

The first stage, which focuses on five groups of buildings, mainly three- to four-storey Victorian terraces, has a budget of £200,000 to £400,000.

The council said it wamted to use the Olympics as a “catalyst for regeneration along the A11/A118 in East London, from Aldgate in Tower Hamlets to Stratford in Newham”.

Tower Hamlets said the successful bidder would work on the improving the “quality of the environment and public realm along that corridor” via a Historic Buildings Conservation Scheme which will enhance and restore a number of buildings along the Tower Hamlets part of the route.

The programme has English Heritage funding.
