Willmott Dixon has won a £20m contract build a new building to house the Department of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London.

The four-storey steel framed building with basement will be built on the existing campus and house a range of specialist rooms including radio, TV and photographic studios and darkrooms, as well as a 250-seat lecture theatre, teaching rooms and offices.

It will be fronted by a glass façade, and will be clad elsewhere in pixel effect terra cotta tiles.

Goldsmiths aims for its new facility to achieve a “Very Good” BREEAM rating for the new facility. This will be supported by natural ventilation throughout, aided by four large wind towers on the roof.

Rob Lambe, managing director for Willmott Dixon’s Dartford office said, “We’ve worked very hard already to get to this stage and are looking forward to starting on site soon. We will try where possible to award significant construction work packages to local companies in order to support the regional economy."
