Construction workers at the Lindsey oil refinery, sacked last week for taking unofficial strike action, have burned dismissal letters in a mass protest.

The sacked workers have been given until 1700 today (Monday) to reapply for their jobs.

Meanwhile, hundreds of workers have come out in sympathy with the Lindsey workers.

About 400 workers at two LNG plants in west Wales - South Hook and Dragon - have walked out in support, along with 200 at Aberthaw power station in the Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales and a futher 200 from Drax and Eggborough power stations near Selby, North Yorkshire.

Union activists say they expect thousands more to come out on strike over the next few days.
