Top 5 construction tenders - 26 June 2009

In the top five construction tenders this week the University of Sussex is advertising a £30m accommodation scheme, there is a £17m utilities project for Northern Ireland Water and a £11.5m special needs school in Scotland. Brighton: University accommodation

  • Value: £30m
  • The University of Sussex is looking for a contractor to build 14 accommodation blocks, along with a reception and social block at its Falmer site. The accommodation blocks are to contain a total of 777 units comprising en-suite study rooms, studio flats and wheelchair accessible study rooms. All must achieve a BREEAM 'excellent' rating.

Belfast: Public utilities

  • Value: £17m
  • Northern Ireland Water intends to make upgrades to its Dunmurry and Newtownbreda waste water treatment works. It needs a contractor to make modifications and refurbish its existing process assets, as well as constructing new facilities to meet current and future discharge requirements.
  • Deadline: 5 August

Bridgend: Housing refurbishment

  • Value: £12m-£15m
  • Valleys to Coast Housing is advertising a four year contract for structural repairs and thermal improvements to 485 properties in the Bridgend area. The properties vary in type and condition so work will also include kitchens, bathrooms, heating systems and electrics where required.
  • Deadline: 31 July

Newton Mearns: School construction

  • Value: £11.5m
  • A special needs school is to be constructed in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. The building will be a timber frame construction on piled and raft foundations. Construction is expected to last 52 weeks with works beginning at the end of February 2010.
  • Deadline: 23 July

Billericay: Flats construction

  • Value: £8.5m-£9m
  • Swan Housing Association is advertising for a contractor to build 80 flats in Southend. The construction will be above existing commercial premises and the properties will be for rent, shared ownership and private sale.
