At least 10 firms are thought to have made the shortlist for the £10m-plus band of the £1.2bn YORbuild framework, which is set to deliver construction work in Yorkshire and Humber.
Industry sources indicated that BAM Construct, Bullock Construction, Kier, Laing O'Rourke and Mansell have all made the cut.
Meanwhile, Sir Robert McAlpine, Shepherd, Willmott Dixon, Interserve, Skanksa, Carillion, ISG, Balfour Beatty, Allenbuild and Vinci are also thought to have thrown their hats into the ring.
The framework, a collaboration between Scarborough Council, East Riding of Yorkshire, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, and Leeds City Council, is looking to recruit both national players and SMEs to deliver regional improvements.
It consists of regional subframeworks in the North, South, East and West, each of which are split into a further six lots (see below).
The framework can be accessed by any local authority, public sector body or third sector organisation in the Yorkshire and Humber region and is expected to become available for procurement of individual projects in November.
One of the first projects to be procured under YORbuild is expected to be a new headquarters for Humberside Police in Hull, worth an estimated £25m.
CJ understands that around a total of around 130 contractors are shortlisted across all value bands and all four subregional frameworks. Tenders are due in on Monday next week.
