The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has responded to criticism by the Environmental Industries Commission, the trade body for companies such as diesel particulate manufacturers, that it is failing to combat pollution and implement measures set out in the Best Practice Guidance (BPG).
In a statement, the ODA said it remained committed to putting in place measures that protect and enhance the local and regional environment. However, it said: "We have had talks with the industry about the [BPG's] requirement for all Non-Road Mobile Machinery to be fitted with appropriate exhaust devices and it is clear that there remain concerns from parts of industry about these devices.
"We are currently implementing the majority of the requirements set out in the BPG, including the use of ultra low-sulphur diesel by all our contractors. The ODA is keen to move forward with a pilot study to assess these key issues."
