Dean & Dyball has confirmed that it has made 30 workers redundant in the South West - the equivalent of almost a third of its staff.
The company, now part of Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering, blamed a "significant downturn" in the South West for the decision.
A spokeswoman told CJ.com: "We have been holding a consultation with staff that started a month ago. Unfortunately we still had to make people redundant, due to a significant downturn in the market in the South West."
The move has largely affected what the company termed "blue collar" workers, as a result of projects coming to an end and a dearth of new work.
