Network Rail has chosen 14 firms for its £1 billion Multi-Asset Enhancement five-year framework.

The winning contractors are expected to be confirmed next week after being whittled down from a shortlist of 25.

The successful contractors are thought to be: Amey, Barhale Rail, Balfour Beatty, Bam Nuttall, Bovis, Buckingham Group, C Spencer, Carillion, Colas, G Osbourne Rail, Galliford Try, Jarvis, Kier and VolkerFitzpatrick.

Firms thought to have missed out include Dyer and Butler, Amco, B&M Mchugh, Murphy Group, Costain, Morgan Est and Clancy Docwra.

Work will focus on enhancements rather than renewal of Network Rail’s existing assets.

Winning firms will be responsible for the management and delivery of works on stations, civils, electrification, power, signalling, telecommunications and track.

Individual jobs will be worth between £1 million and £15 million during Network Rail’s Control Period 4 from 2009 to 2014.
