The CEA has disputed assertions by the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC), which represents diesel particulate filter manufacturers, that all concerns regarding fitting the filters to plant had been addressed by the Best Practice Guide (BPG) and the registration system.
Tim Faithfull, director of member services for the CEA, which represents plant manufacturers, said neither the BPG nor the registration scheme cover safety.
He said: "The CEA has been saying for the past few years that there could easily be major problems with machine functionality, additional safety hazards and warranties. This is aside from the negligible environmental benefit by imposing such restrictions on a small population of machines a couple of years ahead of UK legislation that will meet or exceed the BPG aspirations.
"The CEA has put these points consistently to the Greater London Authority and the EIC, both verbally and in writing, since 2005, but without seeing any interest in our views or receiving any credible response."
