Ammann Yanmar believes its Victas offset track system (standard on machines from 2t to 10t) is the answer to the mini excavator's stability problems.
Victas uses asymmetric tracks where the roller contact point is moved towards the outside edge of the tracks while remaining within the same overall width. It also uses external (instead of central) guide rollers so the reaction point remains at the outer extremity of the roller to maximise the effective width so the latest SV20 has a supported width of 1.26m within an overall track width of 1.38m.
To illustrate the stability this imparts, managing director Robert Brown said the company's 2.8t excavator has higher load-over height than its competitors and both the standard and zero tailswing can have the same digging envelope.
