Carillion to sell Enviros environmental business

By Aaron Morby

Carillion has put its environmental consulting division Enviros up for sale, the last big disposal in the wake of the £570m acquisition of Alfred McAlpine.

The business, responsible for managing the clean-up of the Atomic Weapons Establishment’s Cardiff site and building the Olympic rowing lake at Eton Dorney, is to be marketed to potential buyers by Rothschild’s Birmingham office, according to the Financial Times.

Enviros was valued at £30m when McAlpine bought it from ECI, the private equity group, in 2007.

Carillion has sold several non-core businesses in recent months, raising a net £43.7m from the sale of an IT outsourcing business and stakes in private finance initiative projects during the first half.

The IT business, sold to Capita for £36m, was also taken on as part of Carillion’s 2007 takeover of McAlpine.
