TowerLight offers site planning service

By Colin Sowman

TowerLight has launched a service whereby it calculates a site's lighting equipment requirement to meet the Health & Safety Executive's recommended luminance levels after it found site managers (and others) were following past procedures, using light meters or simply guessing the lighting needed.

To overcome this knowledge gap, TowerLight worked with the software development company OxyTech on a bespoke version of Litestar, which calculates site lighting levels at all times of the day or night. Having pre-programmed the output and coverage of each of its lighting products, TowerLight uses the PC-based software to calculate lighting levels for construction sites, car parks, concert venues, tunnels and highways.

If site managers provide the dimensions of their site (measured or CAD files) and the type of work being undertaken, TowerLight will calculate the exact type, model and positioning of its lighting equipment to achieve the required illumination level. Managers wanting to use the service for non-TowerLight units can do so, although the company cannot guarantee the absolute illumination levels.

"With the current emphasis on having correct and safe lighting for site workers, we set about developing this software to help site managers- all they need to do is get in touch with us," said TowerLight's international sales manager Paul Hay.
