Balfour in advanced talks over 'significant' acquisition

Balfour Beatty is in advanced talks to make a "significant" acquisition, which it expects to fund mostly with a rights issue.

Balfour responded to speculation that its rights issue could be in the order of £350m with a statement saying: "There can be no certainty that either the acquisition or associated rights issue will proceed."

The company declined to comment further.
