ToTm is the latest hand-arm vibration measurement, recording and management system from PDS Aros. It comes in three parts: a vibration measurement device (certified to ISO standards) strapped to the tool, a 'smart' wristwatch worn by the worker and a download station to collect daily data.
"Unlike other systems, ToTm measures the actual vibration being produced by the tool eight times a second rather than taking a representative figure from a database, so it takes account of blunt tools, the material being worked and different methods of operation," said Aros's Mike Jones. The system also measures trigger time to calculate the operator's vibration 'dose' and this is wirelessly transmitted to the smart wristwatch.
In addition to showing the time, the smart wristwatch has the 'traffic light' system to warn the wearer if they have reached any vibration limit and stores all the day's data (worker's name, tools used, duration, vibration dose and so on). At the end of the shift the data is transferred wirelessly to the download station and feeds into an Excel spreadsheet with any incidents of exceeding limits or removed watches automatically highlighted.
"This means companies don't have to pay us for bespoke software, but can manipulate and store the information as they wish," said Jones.
The cost for a single system is £50 for the vibration meter, £125 for the smart wristwatch and £60 for a download station. A SIM card will soon be added to the download station to automatically send the data back to the contractor's head office and a whole-body vibration version should be ready by the end of the year.
