8,500 construction job losses in Scotland this year

Around 8,500 Scottish construction workers lost their jobs during the first eight months of this year, according to the Scottish Building Federation.

A survey by the trade body found that construction firms had reduced their workforce by an average of 4% since the start of 2009.

This equates to around 8,500 construction workers being made redundant.
