Scrappage extension targets vans

By Colin Sowman

Owners of older vans up to 3.5t are being target by the Government in an extension of the Scrappage Scheme.

Not only has the government injected a further £100m into the scheme which knocks £2,000 off the price of a new vehicle for those part exchanging older cars and light vans, but it has also brought the qualifying age for vans down to eight years. The qualifying age for cars has also been reduced by six months to nine and a half years.

Most van manufacturers are signed up to the scheme which will end by the beginning of March 2010 or when the funding runs out – whichever is the sooner.
